Insight Therapy offers practicum and internship opportunities for exemplary Graduate-level students who are pursuing a Master’s in Counseling, Master’s in Social Work, or a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in a field of Psychology.

Practicum Student Program

As a practicum student, you will fulfill your Graduate Degree Practicum requirements, mainly by gaining experience in our Administrative Office, learning about the “behind the scenes” of running a practice. Responsibilities will include answering phones, conducting brief phone intakes with potential clients, attending staff meetings and peer case consultations, then writing up meeting summaries to document, assisting with chart reviews and audits, etc. We ask that Practicum Students commit to at least 8 hours per week, during ‘normal business hours’ for the duration of their practicum semester. Practicum Students may also have the opportunity to participate in Group Counseling facilitation and/or conduct counseling sessions with some of our clients, while under supervision of one of our Licensed Professional Counselors, as needed to fulfill requirements of their graduate program. Counseling opportunities will only be granted upon completion of our onboarding training and shadowing of counseling sessions when allowed by existing clients.

Internship Student Program

As a student intern, you will be representing Insight Therapy and Wellness and providing the same quality of care to our clients that we promise from all other licensed providers. Therefore, we are looking for students who are professional, diligent, and comfortable working independently. Insight Therapy provides all the clients necessary to a student to fulfill their degree requirements (This is usually at least 120 hours of direct client hours per semester.) Each intern will practice under the supervision of one of our Licensed Professional Counselors, and meet with this supervisor on a weekly basis. All interns will also be requested to attend one Peer Case Consultation per month with our fully licensed providers. Interns will gain experience conducting counseling sessions with clients, diagnosing and creating treatment plans, keeping proper progress notes, completing chart reviews of other providers, etc. This opportunity will introduce you to growing and managing a client caseload in an Outpatient Mental Health Clinic with a private practice setting. Start dates and hours are flexible and dependent upon both the student and client need and availability.

While our Practicums and Internships are not paid positions, we encourage you to treat it like a “real” job. Our program is competitive, and is viewed as a “trial period” to determine whether a student might be a good fit as an independent contractor in our team. Students who excel may have an opportunity to become contracted as an LGPC, LMSW, or Psychology Associate, upon completion of their graduate program. In addition, monthly stipends are considered for students who go above and beyond in their hours and ability to retain clients.

All potential Practicum or Intern Students must complete our application and interviewing process to ensure you will be a good fit for this program and that it is a good fit for you. The purpose of the application and interviews is for us to get to know you as a person, as well as a professional. If your application responses seem to indicate that you would be a good fit for this program, you will be contacted for an interview with the Founder, Marissa Kalkstein.
